ALL BALL!

Posted on: March 7, 2008 9:38 am

Thursday night always a fun night... the bar and sports. Every Thursday night im out with my friends having a good time shooting some pool, playing some cards and watching just about every sporting event that is on in our area. last night we had alot of games that surprised us.. Xavier losing to St. Joes, the Rockets continuing their roll, and the STANFORD CARDINALS getting the short end of the stick.

Xavier losing a game almost seemed inevitable but there was that slim chance that they would win out and slip into a 2 seed for the tournament. All those dreams went out the window last night with that loss now they might get lucky and pull a 4 seed.

The Rockets are still surprising me with how good they are playing without Yao. Granted last nights game was against a Dirk-less Mavs who haven't even been clicking when Dirk was in the lineup, but i still didn't think the Rockets would win by nearly 20 again. This team seems to be coming together under the common idea that everyone wrote them off including me and now i must say it looks like they could be the surprise of the Playoffs.

Hill got ALL BALL in his block against Collison with 2.4 seconds left in the Stanford - UCLA game. It looks like Collison got what would be called a "superstar" call in the NBA. Collison went onto hit both free throws and then the Bruins destroyed Stanford in overtime. UCLA with the win clinched the Pac 10 and now Stanford should get one more chance at UCLA in the Pac 10 tournament barring any upsets, and my money will be on Stanford and the twin towers.

Other news and notes from yesterday got me thinking as well. Can Jevon "The Freak" Kearse return to his freakish ways now that the Titans re-signed him. With the Bailey brothers on the same team how good will the Broncos defense be, I think Boss Bailey will be one of the best LBs in the league this year. Im not big on the whole idea of rookie contracts in baseball, Papelbon making 775k, Fielder making 415k, Francoeur making 450k and Howard last year making 900k after winning the NL MVP. They have to fix this whole idea because these are top notch players on their respective teams and yet they are making much less then players who arent contributing as much. I know in many of the cases its because teams cant agree to terms but it seems as if these players when they become eligible for abritration are going to take their teams to the cleaners. It seems to me like the rookie contracts should be prorated some how so these types of players who are contributing to their teams could make more over the first couple of years if them and the team can't agree on a long-term deal.
